Diastole Alpaca Farm and their many friends will be covering the phones for WFDD’s final push of their spring pledge drive. Call in from 4 – 7 pm on Wednesday, March 23rd and pledge your support for WFDD.
Sandy and I have been long time supporters of WFDD. We feel like part of the family and could not imagine losing the varied programming we enjoy, and depend on, from WFDD.
Our alpacas listen to WFDD 24/7. I’m sure they enjoy the programming but they also appreciate the protection they get from having a human voice coming from each of the barns. It has been shown that having a voice coming from the barns acts as a deterent to coyotes and other predators. I guess predators just lack the class that WFDD supporters show.
Get off the predator list! Call us on Wednesday, March 23 from 4 – 7 pm at 800-262-8850 and pledge your support to WFDD!

Our fiber event yesterday was very successful and we thank each and every one of our friends and customers who made it all possible. The weather was perfect, too.
All is well on the farm today. Since it above freezing, finally, we can do some serious scooping. The weather this past week has limited clean up in the pastures significantly. You can see it, can’t you, piles of frozen alpaca “beans” frozen solid and stuck to the ground. Well, maybe you don’t want to see that. Anyway, we are headed to the barns to remove all of that.
It was really nice to meet you new folks yesterday. I hope you will join us for our next “event”. WFDD did a perfect job of announcing our event but most especially PRONOUNCING our name correctly.
We have the most generous “behind the scenes” helpers and they deserve a huge thank you. Ann, Al and Erica we love you and could not do this without you. Jim’s dear cousins, thank you so much. To all my friends and family that I annoyed with all the questions, “how about this traffic flow”, “what about this placement” and so on and so on. Thank you.
OK gotta go but just want to say thank you very much for a lovely day yesterday.
Let your heart rest.

Hey there everyone, we are putting the finishing touches on the Fleece and Wine Day. It is supposed to warm up Saturday – if call 46 warm. Wear your boots, the great thaw will leave us a little muddy. Expect sunny and fun for the day!!!
We are so looking forward to it. Just a reminder, this is not a farm tour day. This day is dedicated to fiber, ours in its natural state, Pilot Mt. Lllamas, in its finished state, and of course, the wine (not exactly fiber but goes well with most everything) from Brandon Hill Vineyards. Please join us. If you have been here before, welcome back. If this is your first visit, thank you so much. Try to catch our spot on WFDD Thur and Fri on the morning and evening rush hour time slot.
We will have skirted alpaca fleece from our alpacas available for sale in multiple quantities. We are also proud to offer rugs (2×3 ft.) and yarn made with fleece from our alpacas. Hope to see you next Sat. Hours are 10-4, directions available on this web site.
Let your heart rest.
Saturday – January, 15th from 10:00 until 4:00
We have been spreading the word on our upcoming Fleece and Wine Tasting Day and getting a very positive response. It seems like a number of our friends are ready to get out and about after the Holidays.
Ann Potter will be joining us from her farm, Pilot Mountain Llamas( www.pilotmountainllamas.com ). Ann is a marvelous lady with a great imagination for creating yarns from fiber of many different critters. She is always coming up with new and beautiful scarves, wraps and garments. January weather is ofter gray but Ann’s creations will brighten up any day.
Should you be resistant to our fiber temptations, it will be hard to resist the wonderful wines of Pam and David Blackwell at Brandon Hills Vineyard (www.brandonhillsvineyard.com ). An award winning boutique vineyard in the Yadkin Valley area that has some incredible wines. Tastings will be available and their wines, normally sold only at Brandon Hills, will be making their debut at Diastole Alpaca Farm.
We, at Diastole, will have our regular offering of alpaca socks, throws and yarn as well as fleece from our 2010 shearing and, for the first time, we will be preselling fleece from our upcoming shearing in April. The date is not set yet but will be shortly – purchased fleeces can be picked up on shearing day or at a later date if you would like it cleaned.
We will hold the event, rain, snow or shine. We would appreciate an email (jimmorrisnc@embarqmail.com )to help us prepare but if schedules change and you decide to come out, don’t hesitate. The directions are on the website or give me a call 336-775-7303.
The Fuzzinator Returns!
Several of you have seen the wonderful fleece tumbler that our great friend Al Harbury made for us last summer. We stole the idea from Dale and Ann Potter at Pilot Mountain Llamas after they had loaned us theirs. Al has taken it back to his shop and is adding a motor with a timer and extra outlets for blowers and, well, really fixing it up to do an even greater job of cleaning fiber. It knocks skirting time down tremendously and does a better job of removing second cuts and bits of hay. Any fleeces purchased can be “fuzzinated” if desired for pick up or delivery later.
See you shortly – Jim and Sandy

Hi
Join us on January 15, 2011 from 10-4 (rain or shine) for fun, fleece, fiber and wine. Here is a new year event that will have something for almost everybody. Brandon Hill Vineyard proprietors, Pam and David, will be on hand with a sampling of their award winning wines. Ann from Pilot Mt. Llamas will spin for us and have some of her wonderful wild yarns for sale. We, Diastole, will have our rugs, raw fleece and an assortment of finished alpaca products.
What nice visitors we had at the farm over the Alpaca Farm Day weekend. Thank you all for coming.
This was our second NAFD event. This year was fun. I can see this growing into a lot of different directions and lots more fun. Last year was a bit nerve wracking for me.
Maeve, our dark fawn yearling, did a superb public relations job. She is irresistible and she knows it. The chickens are always a hit. The kids just love them. Lots of inquiries about starting alpaca farms and buying animals.
We are planning a shopping day. Christmas is coming and what a nice gift a 2×3 ft rug made from our animal’s fleece would make. Very nice for bare feet on those chilly winter days. In addition, we have plenty of yarn, also from our herd. Will post in ample time for everyone to visit us.
Remember Lukie Mouse Mouth? He is a teenager now and is suffering puberty much like we humans do. He still loves to catch those mice and walk all around the farm with the poor think dangling from his mouth. Luke has caught on to our attempts to retrieve his rodent so it is seldom that we save one.
We have two crias due in about 6 weeks. This is our first time for fall babies. I will keep you posted on that, too.
Thanks again for your interest and remember to let your heart rest.
